Swedish Vallhund Dog BreedThe Swedish Vallhund dog breed is a versatile dog. It has been used on farms for herding and guarding and it has been used as a watchdog and for controlling vermin. They have been in use for centuries now and were only recently recognized by the American Kennel Club The Vallhund is in the Miscellaneous class of the AKC but I have included it here as a herding dog. This is how the UKC has classed this breed (although they call it the pastoral group) Personality and AttitudeThis is a very friendly and affectionate dog that is eager to please. They are easily trained for this reason. And they get along well with other pets in addition to being friendly towards strangers Overall they are quite active and energetic. This means they require quite a bit of exercise and playtime (or worktime). Size and AppearanceThis is a medium sized dog standing 12 to 14 inches and weighing 20-35 pounds. It has a medium length, harsh coat that comes in many different colours, usually sable with shades of grey and red. This breed often lives from 15 to 17 years! |
