The Polish Lowland Sheepdog

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog was once popular as a farm dog – especially as guards of the flock. They are now a popular family pet in Poland

Size and Appearance

This is a medium size dog standing 16 to 20 inches (40-52cm) and weighing 30-35 pounds (14-16 kg).

They have a harsh shaggy appearance thanks to their long and dense hair. They hair comes in all colors and is quite abundant. It covers their eyes and covers the short tail as well. And their head has lots of fur too, including the forehead and cheeks. Their ears are floppy and full of fur as well.

Personality and Attitude

This is now a popular household pet in Poland because it is a breed that is easy to train, active and alert. They make great watch dogs because they are so alert and watchful (they used to guard the flocks). Despite their watchfulness they are friendly towards other animals. They can be wary of strangers and are known to bark a lot.

They are very intelligent and have high energy levels. So they do need lots of exercise and good training. Their obedience and intelligence makes regular training a relatively easy task.

With regular exercise and good nutrition this breed will live about 10- 14 years
