Maine Coon

The Coon is a breed of cat that has been around for a very long time. It’s roots go back hundreds of years.

This is a large cat breed that is solid, muscular, and broad chested in appearance. They have along body, large tufted feet, a thick plumed tail, a thick coat with a ruff around the neck and their face features large, wide set eyes. Overall, this breed has a very hardy appearance.

The coat is longhaired and has a silky feel to it. It is quite thick, long and water resistant. They come in all colors except chocolate and lilac and they come in all patterns except the Siamese points.

Because they have such long, thick coats they are susceptible to matting. Brushing a few times per week is important. Especially around the neck, stomach and legs where they have the most tufts. It’s not a terribly difficult task, but it is important.
