Egyptian Mau

The Egyptian Mau is an old breed of cat that can be traced back to the time of ancient Egypt. Their spotted likeness is seen on the walls of the Pharaohs chambers. They show signs of this ancestry through their strong preference for warmth and the sensitivity they have to cold.

They are recognizable for a thin frame and spots. They are a medium sized cat with a rounded face and large expressive green eyes. Their medium length coats are fine and silky. Their coats are normally silver, bronze, smoke or black and feature random spots on a lighter background.

Personality

This is a quiet and friendly breed of cat. They bond well with their owners. They will greet you at the door when you return home. They are extremely fast and you can have a lot of fun playing with toys with them. Their speed and reflexes will amaze you.

They can be aggressive if threatened and can be overly possessive and protective of their owners and toys. Socialization is important to teach them how to play and share.

This breed is probably not the best temperament for a family with small children.
