Bullmastiff dog breed

The Bullmastiff dog breed is a large working dog breed that was bred to protect large estates. They make excellent watchdogs and guard dogs and have a powerful confident appearance.

Personality and Attitude

This is a gentle, quiet and obedient dog. They are calm but have the ability to be brave and stubborn if it needs to protect its home or owner. Over all they will be reserved towards strangers

Due to their size alone, good training and socialization are important from an early age. They are generally good with other dogs but they can be aggressive with other dogs if not socialized early. This is especially true with male dogs towards other male dogs.

If you plan to have a this breed and you have children it is important to raise the dog with the children. Having the dog and then having children could be problematic. But getting this breed after you have children should be fine - the kids and the dog need to be taught to respect each other

Size and appearance

There is no doubt that this is a large dog breed. They weigh 100 to 130 pounds and stand 24 to 27 inches tall.

They have short coats that come in red, fawn or brindle. Their faces resemble that of a bulldog (they are a cross between the Bulldog and Mastiff). Their ears are v shaped and lay over their cheeks.

Health and Lifespan

Like many large dog breeds they are risk for hip or elbow dysplasia as well as gastric torsion.

Overall they will live 8-10 years.
