Hunting dog Breeds

Also called Sporting Dog Breeds and Gundog Breeds



As their name implies, hunting dog breeds were bred to work with hunters for “sport”.

These dogs tend to be very trainable and loyal. But they also require activity – they are used to being useful! Hunting dog breeds are one of 7 akc dog breeds groups

Many hunting dogs that I have met are great off leash (once trained of course). Once trained they respond very well to verbal commands including coming to you when called. I have a friend that had an English Springer Spaniel that was remarkably obedient.

Many of these dogs are well loved family dogs. Take the Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever as examples – they are two of the most popular dog breeds according to the American Kennel Club.
