Working Dog Breeds

Working Dog Breeds are generally large and powerful. They have been bred for pulling heavy objects, rescuing people, and acting as guard dogs. They are great companions due to their intelligence and loyalty. But they may be too much for many families to handle. Especially those with young children.

Because of their size and strength they are usually not suitable in smaller homes. And you must be determined to invest the right amount of time into the training of your dog.

I do love many of these dogs and really want a Bernese Mountain Dog – but my place is smaller so I elected for a couple of herding dogs (who really need a lot of exercise & training too!) Another one of my favorites is the Siberian Husky – they are beautiful!

These are a few of the more common working breeds
