The Toy Fox Terrier Dog Breed

The Toy Fox Terrier breed was developed in the United States in the early 1900's. Their initial breeding was for the development of an energetic and hardy dog that could take care of rodents.

Over time this breed became one of the Most Popular Dog Breeds. This popularity is due to both its cute appearance and affectionate personality.

Personality and Attitude

Although the Toy fox Terrier is in with the Toy dog breeds it does have some common traits to a Terrier. The most notable trait that it shares with other Terriers is its feisty nature.

Overall this small dog is a very affectionate, playful and energetic dog. It loves its family and aims to please. It is fairly easy to train. They are a little reserved with strangers and are okay with other pets

Size and Appearance

This Toy Dog Breed stands just 9 to 11 inches tall and only weighs 4 to 7 pounds!

They have short smooth coats that require very little in the way of maintenance. This breed normally has a predominantly colored head with a lot of white on its body. The colors that it comes in include: chocolate and tan; white and tan; white and black; and tricolor.

For their size they have large ears that stand erect and pointed. Their eyes are prominent and dark and they have a high set tail that is usually docked.

This breed can do well in an apartment or in a home. Like many toy breeds they may not be well suited for a home with small children. But older children who are taught proper respect and care for the dog will do well

They will live about 12-14 years if well cared for.

Where to get a Toy Fox Terrier?

I think a rescue is the best place to start. Almost all purebred dogs have a rescue organization affiliated with the national Kennel Club. If that fails then try an animal shelter or go to a Reputable Dog Breeder
