The Silky Terrier Dog Breed

The Silky Terrier Dog breed is related to the Yorkshire Terrier and the Australian Terrier dog breeds. It is a Toy dog breed

Size and Appearance

Silkies are a small dog standing 9 to 11 inches tall (24-28 cm) and weighing 10 pounds.

They have long silky coats and do not shed much at all. They are normally a combination of tan and blue colors. Their ears are small, pointed and stand erect. They have small feet and a docked tail that is carried high

Personality and Temperament

The Silky has a high energy level and it loves to be with people. It is a playful breed but does not require a lot of exercise.

They were bred for hunting rats and snakes in Australia so it does have Terrier Attributes. For example, they like to dig. They are intelligent but can be stubborn about their training.

If they are socialized well early on they will be good with children, tolerant of other dogs, and friendly to strangers.

This is an alert breed that will keep watch of the home. They do tend to bark quite a bit so you should keep that in mind.

The earlier you start with obedience and socialization the more you will enjoy your dog.
