The Old English Sheepdog

The Old English Sheepdog dog breed was developed in England as a livestock herder. As such it is part of the Herding Dog Breeds group of dogs

Size and Appearance

This is a large breed of dog standing 22 to 26 inches (56-65 cm) tall and weighing 60-90 pounds. They are strong dogs with a thick, broad body, and a large head. They have quite a bit of fur (lots!) that is wavy and thick. They actually look like puffy dogs!

They normally are some combination of grey, blue, white, or grizzle.

They require a fair bit of grooming thanks to their thick coats.

Personality and Attitude

This bread is quite easygoing and dependable. It is not as energetic as some other herding dogs but it does have good stamina. Although they are dependable, loyal, faithful and intelligent, they are stubborn and tougher to train. Like all herding dogs they need plenty of daily exercise. And if they are left alone for long periods they may become destructive and or bark a lot.

This is a good family pet if someone is home quite a bit. They are good with children and with other pets too. They are quite friendly dogs and will show great devotion to the family.

Like most herding dogs they live 10-12 years on average
