The Lhasa Apso Dog Breed

The Lhasa Apso Dog Breed is from Tibet and was originally kept in Monasteries as guard or watch dogs for the monks. Today they are among the most popular breed dog breeds.

Personality and Attitude

This little dog is well known for its happy and energetic attitude. They can also be stubborn in their pursuit of independence. They do not take well to young children and any handling that is rough could lead to a nip or bite.

Size and Appearance

The Lhasa is a smaller dog standing 9 – 11 (24 - 28cm) inches tall and weighs 13 – 15 pounds (6 - 7 kg).

They are well known for their long, heavy, double coats that hang down to the floor. Their coats come in smoke, grizzle, slate and a variety of colours including a variety of browns as well as white and black. Because their coats are so long and heavy, they require regular grooming with daily brushing recommended.

The Lhasa Apso is a Non Sporting Dog Breed
